PRINCIPALS REPORT
Dear Families,
Welcome back! We have had a settled and productive start to Term 2. It was wonderful to see the students arrive back at school enthusiastic, looking so smart in their uniforms and showing that they are Ready to Learn. We have a busy term ahead with Cross Country, NAPLAN, excursions, performances and Learn to Swim for our older students. Our Kitchen/Garden/Outdoor Classroom Program will continue as will options afternoons for our older students.
NAPLAN
In weeks 3 and 4 of this term, our grade 3 and grade 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN. NAPLAN will include four components, Writing, Numeracy, Conventions of Language and Reading. This year our students will be completing these assessments online instead of using paper booklets. The information we gather from these assessments allows us to identify school priorities and plan ways to best support the learning of our students moving forward. This should not be a stressful time for our students and we would encourage all of our students to simply try their best.
Safe, Fair, Care Rewards Afternoon
At the end of last term, we were able to reward the majority of our students with a movie afternoon to acknowledge the way they have consistently adhered to our school values. It was wonderful to see so many students join us for the first time, having made positive improvements in their behaviour this year. Our SRC are currently discussing ideas for the reward for the end of term 2 and we hope to have even more of our students invited this time around. Remember, the way to get an invitation is to show the school values at all times!

MONTANA LAREDO
Meet Risdon Vale Primary School’s new Australian Champion! Montana Laredo has been crowned Mini Miss Diamond Australia at a recent presentation evening at the Emporium Hotel in Brisbane. Montana has been fundraising for the “Ten Lives Cat Centre” which looks after sick and orphaned cats all around Australia. Starting last year, Montana has raised over $1100 in support of this worthwhile cause. One of Montana’s favourite fundraising events was an 80s disco night where people had to dress up in fashions from the 1980s. Montana and her mum had great fun dressing up in tutus to support the event at the Brighton Hall.
At the presentation evening in Brisbane lots of people attended and Montana was crowned Mini Miss Diamond Australia after competing in a number of different categories including modelling fun fashions and some formal wear. Montana wore a beautiful baby blue sequined dress and loved the special night. Montana’s mum Kim and her nan Shannon went with Montana to Brisbane and are very proud of their wonderful daughter and grand daughter.
Montana is looking forward to helping out with some more “Ten Lives Cat Centre” pageants during the year, all over Tasmania. Risdon Vale Primary School is very proud of Montana and wishes her every success in her role. Well done Montana!
