PRINCIPALS REPORT
Welcome back everyone! We have had a wonderful, settled start to term 4 and we are looking forward to a very productive and enjoyable ten weeks. An extra special welcome back to Ms Porte and Mr Patulny who were both on leave at the end of last term.
This week, both of our grade 5/6 classes have attended ‘taster’ sessions at Rose Bay High School. Students were taken on a tour of the school as well as participating in drama, music and MDT lessons. This was a valuable opportunity, particularly for our grade 6 students, to familiarise themselves with the school and meet some of the teachers ready for next year. Some of our students are also participating in additional orientation sessions each week with Mrs Giddens.
This term we have decided to limit the grade 3-6 play area to our own school grounds. Our students have been very understanding and responsible with regard to the change. Work has already begun to prepare for improvements to our own playground including swings and a basket swing as well as a turfed area in the courtyard. A reminder that our SRC are running a Second Hand Toy Stall on Wednesday 24th October. Donations of toys in good, used condition would be greatly appreciated. Items will be on sale from 8:30 – 9am and at recess and will range in price from $1 to $5.
Our outdoor classroom and garden redevelopment is very close to being completed and is being well-used and loved by our students already. In conjunction with the Neighbourhood Centre, we are hosting a launch event on Thursday 22nd November and we would like to extend the invitation to families and other members of our community to attend. There will be food and drink, entertainment and the opportunity to have a look at our exciting new space that we hope to share with the wider community.

Safety, Fairness and Caring Reward Afternoon
At the end of term 3, 90% of Risdon Vale Primary School students enjoyed the opportunity to view a movie together in the open area using the new projector screen. Ice-creams and drinks were also provided and it was wonderful to see students earning a reward for having made good choices throughout the term. A similar reward will be offered at the end of this term to students who has either not received a serious behaviour “slip” or no more than one “slip”!
This program encourages students to make positive behaviour choices and to uphold our school values of safety, fairness and caring for others in both the classroom and the playground. Our goal for this term is to have 100% of our students attend the rewards afternoon!
