PRINCIPALS REPORT
The end of a busy and productive term 3 is fast approaching and what an incredible term it has been! Our outdoor classroom and new garden are now complete and planting has commenced. Primary classes have been able to make full use of this new space, participating in our kitchen/garden/outdoor program. Our school fair was a huge success and raised the funds to cover the cost of our new shade shelters and sandpit in the ECE playground. Learn to Swim at Oceana is underway for our primary students and our ECE students will begin water orientation this week. Classes have undertaken a wide range of excursions to support their learning visiting Mount Nelson Sustainability Centre, Peter Underwood Science Centre, Bellerive Beach, Hobart Waterfront, Woolworths production area and Risdon Brook Dam amongst others. Our staff and teachers certainly deserve a restful two-week break!
Playground
Throughout this year, our SRC and School Association have discussed safety concerns around our students using the council playground and skate park during recess and lunch times. There are concerns about the amount of broken glass in the area, members of the public using and walking through the area, proximity to the creek and difficulties in providing adequate supervision for such a large space. It has been decided that as of the beginning of term 4, students will no longer play in these areas. We have decided to improve our existing primary playground area by adding swings and making improvements to the courtyard space. The SRC have chosen four swings and a basket swing along with a ‘spinna’ and this new equipment will be installed before the end of the school year. The SRC are holding a second-hand toy stall at school early next term to raise money toward this new equipment. If you are doing a clean-out over the holidays, please set aside any unwanted (but unbroken) toys that you would be happy to donate. Donations can be bought into the school from the beginning of next term.
Wishing you a wonderful break and looking forward to seeing you all soon, rested and ready for a busy term 4!
