From the Principal
Principal Libby
Robinson
Hello students, parents, carers and staff
A big welcome to our final term of the year. Of course, it will be busy and exciting but the important thing is that we work together to make sure that every child is upholding our Hi 5 Values right up until the last minute of the school year. We expect students to be:
- Responsible
- Respectful
- Be ready to learn
- Be a learning
- Be safe
Our grade 6 students look really wonderful in their new 'RVPS graduate' tops. They are wearing them very proudly as their uniform.
Our school uniform is an expectation of the Department of Education, but what our uniform looks like is an agreement we have as a whole school community. The School Association sign off on all the elements of our uniform. It is expected to: look smart, be affordable and be safe to wear. This includes long hair being tied back, no make-up and no jewellery which is obvious (ear studs are safe but ear rings and stretchers are not safe). Thank you for continuing to support this.
Over the holidays, Rob Schmidt cleaned the school pool. We are hoping to run ECE water orientation classes later this term and to use the pool for some reward time. We will provide further information.
We have a number of new staff working with us this term. We would like to we welcome Anna Weymouth who is in 1-2 Rigney on Fridays as a trainee TA. Isobel Eaves is in her final semester of University, doing her teaching degree and is with 3-4 Patulny. Lastly, we welcome Celeste Phillips, our new Speech Pathologist.
We know that you will feel warmly welcomed and supported as part of our school community.
Our teaching staff will be at school this Friday, doing a day's professional learning. The areas we will be working on are: reflecting on our progress for 2016, planning for 2017. We will be doing a session on My Education as well as History and Studies of Society. Finally we will work together to look into our Positive Behaviour Support systems.
Kind regards, Libby Robinson

Grandparent's/Grand-friend's Day
Grandparent's and Grand-friend's Day
What an amazing event Grandparent's and Grand-friend's Day was and what a privilege to take the challenge on to organise it. We had attendance of approximately 150 people who came to visit their special children in their lives and see exactly what they have been participating in at school.
The children from each classroom from Kinder to Grade 6 all completed pieces of work to be displayed in their classroom and in the art exhibition in the schools open room.
The LIFT program would love to say thank you to the parent's and carer's who supplied a fabulous afternoon tea, the students who kindly invited that special older person in their life and the grandparent's and grand-friends for attending the event and making it such a special occasion.
A HUGE thankyou to:
Marlene (Nanny) Downham
Natasha Aitken
Rachel Aherne
Anna Schmidt
Tamara Knop
Staff and Students
These people helped in many ways on the day to help the event be so successful.
The LIFT program looks forward to taking this challenge on next year. If you have any feedback on what we could improve or what you enjoyed, please email me katie.andrikonis@education.tas.gov.au or approach me at school and let me know.
Grandparents and Grand Friends Day
Back on the first week of term 4 and we already have a special day, "Grandparents and Grand Friends Day" and what a day it was. We had so many Grandparents and Grand Friends come in to see their Grandchildren. First all the Grandparents and Grand Friends went to go to the Grandchild's Classroom to say 'hi' and talk about the work that they have done or just some things that they have done recently. Afterwards we had an afternoon tea for the Grandparents/ Grand Friends and for the Grandchildren and some leftovers for the workers which were some selected grade 5/6 students. It was a huge success and a lovely day.

Launching into Learning Activities

What have we been up to this week?
Welcome back to Term 4. This week in the LiL group we opened up the supermarket in our home corner. We have all brought boxes and cartons from home to start our grocery store.
The home corner allows a child to play with other children with no adult assistance. It helps a child become an effective communicator and gives them a strong sense of well-being.
LiL group is open for any parents with children from birth to aged 4. Our sessions are on:
Tuesday 9:00am till
11:00am
Thursday 12.30 till 2.30pm
For any further information please email: katie.andrikonis@education.tas.gov.au

Nude Food Day
This year our school is participating in Nude Food Day on Wednesday October 26th. We would like all our students to bring a lunch to school that is as nude as possible! Try to pack fresh fruit and veggies that don't need packaging, sandwiches could be packed in reusable containers. Classes will be auditing the amount of rubbish their class generates. If you're not sure how to pack a nude food lunch, have a look at the information in this newsletter and look out for posters displayed around school to give you some hints.
