Principal's Report

Libby Robinson
Principal

Hello students, parents, carers and staff

Welcome to our new school newsletter! We are hoping that by engaging Schoolzine to help us develop our newsletter and our school website that we can provide a greater level of communication and present our school in a way that is bigger, brighter and more exciting than ever. Let us know what you think. We will continue to offer a hardcopy to parents who require it. Please indicate this by phoning the school office on 6242 5222.

If your child requires glasses, and you have a concession card, they may be eligible for subsidized glasses. Only some optometrists offer this service through the Education Department. If this is something you wish to enquire about, please contact our school office for advice.

This term has been incredibly busy:

  • The School Fair was hugely successful!
  • Parent/Teacher interviews increased the quality of communication about your child's learning
  • There were many excursions and performances: Antarctica Festival, Bright Ideas Science Festival, RSPCA, Ogham Soup with Musica Viva, Book Week and so much more
  • On-going quality teaching and learning with the wonderful support of parents remains a strong key feature of our school

In Term 4, some of our education program will include Fire Education and the Growing Up program. We are also looking forward to celebrating Grandparents/Grand-friends Day and the continuation of the grade 6 transition to high school program.

I would like to thank you for your ongoing, positive support and the incredible work of all our teaching staff and support staff.

In Term 4 we will be continuing with a rich educational program and also planning for 2017! I would like to wish the whole school community a safe and restful end of term holiday.

Kind regards, Libby Robinson

Dance Event

Congratulations to all of our students who sang and danced at the Southern Primary Schools Dance Event at Kingston last Friday 16th September. Our students were all very excited to participate in our first ever Dance Event. Students across the school have been participating in Physical Education lessons over term 3 to learn the dances for the Dance Event, working not only on their skills and coordination but also on improving their social interactions. A huge thank you to our parents that came along and supported students and staff, I know this was very much appreciated by all of us. I look forward to doing it all again in two years' time!

Growing up Program

On the 13th and 14th October, Family Planning will be visiting grade 3-6 classes to provide The Growing Up Program – a relationships, sexuality and protective behaviours program. The Growing up program aims to provide your child with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to help them make choices for positive emotional, physical and social health. Parents are invited to attend a parent information session on Thursday 13th October at the school from 8:30 – 9:00 am, further information is being sent home this week with all grade 3-6 students. We strongly encourage parents to attend this session to find out more about the program and to help you feel confident about discussing the program with your child. The session will also include tips, strategies and resources for talking about relationships and sexuality. If you need any further information please feel free to contact me at school.

Kindergarten

Heavy or Light

Kindergarten students have been learning the difference of what is heavy and what is light by lifting up different items and sorting them into groups.

Questions were asked such as:

Is the balloon heavy or light?

Would you be able to carry the desk home?
